Mike..."If you can"

I was channel surfing through the vast emptiness of my cable t.v. lineup one evening 8 or 9 years ago when I stumbled upon Tammy Cochran singing “If you can” at the Grand Ole Opry on TNN. It took about no time at all for my jaw to drop in amazement. Her voice…it jumped out of the television speakers and demanded to be heard! It became immediately apparent to me that she was different than the performers that were “big” at the time and that were getting played on the radio and t.v. Her voice…you could tell that she had “it”. “It” being an intangible thing, but something you could feel in a very profound way, with a real emotional intensity that stopped you where you stood. I was stunned. There aren’t many performers that can blow you away the first time you hear them, but that’s exactly what happened to me. As Tammy sang the chorus to this song I realized that I had goosebumps all over my skin. It was the most amazing reaction I’ve had (even to this day) watching a musical performance on television. I checked the t.v. guide and was thrilled that her performance would be repeated later that evening. I set up my VCR (remember those?) and taped the performance. Fast forward to October 2009: I was going through a box of video tapes and I played the tape with Tammy’s performance from the Grand Ole Opry - it gave me goose bumps all over again! What a tremendous performance. I just want to say thanks to Tammy for singing that song: your ability to express yourself goes straight from the little speaker on the t.v. right to the heart and that is a true gift! I hope this message finds you doing well these days! P.S. I was so inspired that I recorded a version of “If you can” myself, which can be seen on youtube here: youtube.com/watch?v=_Smnbbp9k2Y If anyone would like to contact me, especially if you live near me and would like to play some music sometime, you can do so at the following e-mail address:

ANGELS IN WAITING is a beautiful, heart touching song for anyone who listens, especially someone with CF or someone close to a CF patient. My 25 y/o daughter has been on a double lung transplant list for over 2 years. Difficult? YES! Overwhelming? YES! It's so wonderful that you put so much of your time and effort into CF. She and I had to leave her dad and brother in Louisiana for her to be listed here. Pretty touch, but it's what we gotta do to give her a new life, a life where she can breathe like you and me!! Thank you for all you do!! 10/2/09

I saw you at Alabama Theatre on the 8th and you shined brighter than sequin and colored the air with your voice(it wasn't the special effects). Your performance felt real in a place where smiles seemed fake. You showed your heart through your performance, thank you for that.

I just wanted to thank you for "angels in waiting." When my great grandma died, I learned it was a favorite of hers when it was played at her funeral. So again, thank-you! I know your brothers are smiling looking down on you, so very proud how you have turned out:) I hope you have continued success!

My daughter Vanessa is in the hospital now for her clean out. (aka Tune Up) She is truly my Angel in Waiting. I am sorry for the loss of your brothers. I bet they never realized how their struggle would affect and encourage the world. Thank you for sharing you life experiences with us. As a single mom raising 3 kids alone can be really hard. Thank God for advances in research on CF. The life expectancy has gone up a lot in the last 10 years. Utah has about 250 kids and 150 adults with CF. Perhaps one day you could do a benefit concert here. I know my daughter and I would love to meet you. God Bless you Tammy. Thank you

I get to thinking about you from time to time Tammy. Your song LIFE HAPPENED touches me as well as ANGELS IN WAITING. I think you are a class act. Your face is as beautiful as your songs. Your voice gives me chills. Sincerely , Jeff Audette
